Snow Reporter's Message

UPDATE 2:41PM: All lifts are on hold due to lightning in the area (Grandview, Nob Hill, Easy Rider and both carpets).

WED APR 16, 5:34AM:

Good morning, Sierra!

Here’s your mountain conditions report for Wednesday, April 16th 2025.

So much buttery goodness out there! Who needs edges when the snow’s this soft?! Wax, on the other hand... that’s something to consider! We’re looking at a high temperature of 57F today, with calm wind and cloudy skies, leading into the possibility of some afternoon thunderstorms.  So if you’re planning on coming up to ski + ride Sierra today I’d recommend slapping a fresh coat of spring wax on your bases. A buff wax will cover you for a few runs, while an iron wax will keep you sliding from open to close. This time of year I wax my board every day – it serves two purposes – first, a hot scrape after a day of riding “variable” snow will help remove all of the dirt and sap I’ve picked up along the way, opening up the pattern on my base for the spring snow to flow across it with little to no resistance. Second, warm spring snow pulls wax off the base much faster than cold snow does, so it’s a good idea to keep it fresh daily.

The back side and West Bowl will be closed for the remainder of the season due to rapid melt-off in key areas, but thanks to the tireless work of our grooming and ops teams, we’ve been able to make the most of all the snow we’ve got stashed around the hill – allowing us to keep our open terrain nicely covered. Planned operations today include Grandview, Nob Hill, Easy Rider, 2 carpets and 6 terrain parks. And heads up to the park riders, today will be the last day of public operations for the Methodology course. We’re tearing it down after today, so get out there and tear it up!

If you’re still on the fence about picking up your pass for next season, let’s be transparent about it – right now through April 30th pass prices are the lowest they’ll be, so lock it in now and rest easy all summer knowing you scored the best deal in Tahoe for a 2025/26 season pass! The passholder benefits are unbelievable, and there are too many to list! For the full breakdown, check our website at sierraattahoe.com/season-passes . We have options!

And lastly, this deal is too good not to remind you about! Play Days are still active at Sierra through this Friday, with a different group being treated to discounted lift tickets - priced at just $70! Today (Weds) the deal is offered to members of our military, and on Thursday public workers are invited to take advantage of the Play Day deal! Check the website at sierraattahoe.com/real-deals for full details!

See ya in the park!

-Mike
